Delasaux's Trip Pays Dividends
Travelling halfway around the world has paid dividends for
Englishman Laurence Delasaux.
The sixth seed has taken the PSA Tour's North Island Championships
in Hamilton, New Zealand, bouncing back from a game down to beat
ninth seeded Australian Scott Arnold in the title decider.
The two finalists now head north in the search for more valuable PSA
world ranking points, lining up in the Tradestaff Auckland Open at Remuera Squash Club next weekend. |

Daniel Zilic reports from Waikato
Laurence won the finals today against Scott Arnold.
Two big guys on court there with both well over six foot. Both
seemed pretty tired from the hard matches they had leading up to the
finals.
After losing the first game in a tiebreaker Laurence straightened up
his game and was a bit too precise for Scott and used his deception
well at the front of the
court.
Scott came back in the fourth game and had a 4-1 lead but could not
hold on to it as Laurence went on to win the next 8 points and
defended his
9:4 lead winning it 11:7.
There were some pretty close matches beforehand, with Campbell
Grayson just edging out Chris Ryder, who was leading 2:0 and had one
or two matchballs in the fourth game.
I managed to beat Tim Arnold in five in the second round.
Anyway, most of us players are back to Auckland now for the next
tournament, the
Tradestaff Auckland Open I think, a super-satellite
(3,500$ plus
accommodation, so it is $6,000 compensation all in all).
Couple of the guys are still hoping to slip into qualifying (Chris
Ryder, Stuart Crawford), others are going back to AUstralia (Nick
Smith, Yasunori Ishiwata) for a challenger there and coming back for
the last tournament of the North Islands PSA Series.
So much for now, hope that helps you out a bit and I will ask the
organisers to send you some stuff a bit earlier,
Cheers,
Dan Zilic
PS: Interestingly Laurence is set to play Callum first round in the
next tournament in
Auckland if the draw is not changed again - not an easy
match there...
